Dr. Wright's research shows that the correct left and right hand bat handle sizes and stance width “frees” the core muscles and creates unrestricted rotation and maximum power.  There is also an accurate visual perception of the point of release of the pitch and the position of the ball as it approaches the plate, unlike an improper grip size and / or stance width.

The following video shows San Diego Padre Drew Macias and New York Yankee, Mike Lamb being fitted in our biomechanics lab.

Posture:  We have all been told to assume an "athletic position" by various coaches.  We can now quantify that athletic position and as you will see in the following video on posture, it is different for all of us.

The sizing of a bat handle and proper stance widths for launch and stride points are really quite simple once you have the results of your body measurements.  To determine your grip sizes and balanced stance widths for launch and stride positions, click on The "Create Your Grip Size Account" button and register.  Once you have registered, be sure to click on "Measurements" in the top navigation.  View the 3 short videos on how to do your body measurements, complete and submit your hand tracings and you are good to go.

You will receive your prescribed left and right hand grip sizes, balanced stance widths and  recommended bat length.  You will also receive instructions on how to determine your best stance width for you to start your balanced launch and stride positions. A little practice on your launch and stride points and you will be set up at the plate for maximum power, accurate visual perception of the release of the pitch and the position of the ball in space.

Mike Lamb played for the Yankees AAA team last summer.  He was fit for bat size, balanced stance width and posture in January, 2011.  By July, 2011 Mike was having his bats made to his exact specs.  He was able to increase his bat size from a 34 inch 31 ounce bat to a 34 inch 34 ounce bat.  His proper left and right hand grip size increased the size of the bat handle.  By offsetting the weight from the barrel to the handle, he was able to increase his bat weight by 3 ounces.  Greater mass = greater power.
